Very Early Morning Bass

15Jun09_000115Jun09_000215Jun09_0003

This morning was weird; I had all my bites before 5 and absolutely nothing after that.  At all.  I threw spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and crankbaits but the only thing they would hit this morning were Senkos.  The bass in the last pic was yet another nice fish, but it was gut hooked and bleeding so no measuring or weighing, just a quick pic and back in the water.  Those bass in the river are definitely growing…nice healthy fish.

All 3 of those fish look like a decent size, I guess the bigger bass are definately moving in shallower to feed now.

    Steve,

That’s the way it was last summer as well. I caught most of my fish, at least the bigger ones, while it was still dark. I’m thinking about hitting Idong soon for some night fishing now that the water level is low enough so I can walk around those cliffs and rocks.

Yea, usually during the daylight hours in summertime = dinks, and lots of them. The next time I get home from Angola it will be July and August, it’ll be too hot to fish during the day so I’ll be doing mostly all night fishing.

  4. Nomad says:

Oh man, I hate fishing in that heat. Actually, I hate doing anything in that heat. LOL During July and August, I prefer indoor activities that involve lots of Air Conditioning and cold drinks

And yeah, the best fishing at that time is at night or very early morning.

You big wussies! Too hot to fish? Come on!!! LOL

    Nice going Nomad!!!!

Nomad, you’re thing the same way as I. We are planning an overnight later this week at Idong. Hopefully all the rain predicted by weather underground will be wrong. KMA is showing a totally different forecast.

    dave,

Give white spinnerbaits or topwaters a try at night. The times I fished at Idong in the dark, I did very well with white spinnerbaits with silver willow blades which goes against everything you read from the experts who say to use dark spinnerbaits with big colorado blades at night. Also, small topwaters or small silver crankbaits/rattle traps for big bluegill

    Rob,

Guilty as charged…but I seem to remember someone who damn near got heat stroke being out there in 96 degree heat

I was looking at the local solunar chart for this month and it looks like I took the wrong week off. Next week looks to be stellar Tuesday thru Thursday with the new moon and major feeding times at midday.
I took this week off because the kids are now out of school. We have all sorts of stuff planned: golf today, Everland tomorrow, Tigerworld on Friday, Humphries water park on Sunday, but we have a couple fishing trips smattered in there as well. Wife wouldn’t let me have a day by myself for fishing, so I am including it in the camping trip.

That’s what I call time and personnel management

But you know what Nomad, I actually caught a bunch of fish that day, which was a pleasant surprise…but yea…the heat was just unbearable.

  11. Rob says:

Good luck and have fun on the camping trip Dave!

  12. Nomad says:

    Rob,

Yes, I remember that but I also remember that a certain person got so burned they couldn’t go fishing again the next day ;-)

  13. Rob says:

Actually, I think it took me a few days to recover from that one. And remember, my original plan was to stay out there all night and then go fishing with you the next day. Ack! LOL

  14. Nomad says:

ROTFL, yeah I remember that.

I think I slammed two one litre bottles of water after I finally got the boat all packed back up, and I was still dehydrated the next day. LOL :)
