Went and stayed at a pension house this weekend with 2 other families on Modo (one of the islands north of Inchon Airport). One of the wife’s friends knew a guy with a boat there and he gave us a free trip out for some hand line fishing for sea bass. There were 3 of us guys with 4 kids so we weren’t there for some serious fishing. Just handlining for whatever would bite. We ended up with a descent mess. Sashimied up a few for a midday snack. the rest went on the grill or in the soup pot. Still it was pretty fun overall.
Leaving out tomorrow to Okinawa for a week. Hoping to get in an offshore trip for some "big uns"
Nice going Dave!
North of Incheon? Hey, you didn’t happen to see any North Korean fishing boats in the vicinity, did ya?
Okinawa! Hmmm I wonder if they still have all those space A flights to Kadena…I’d love to go back there for a visit, get in some snorkeling and fishing
Looks as though you all had a killer time!! How far out did you go? We always cheat when we go out to the ocean fishing, you know — dive tanks and spears.
Thanks guys and greetings from Okinawa. We weren’t far enough north to see any North Koreans, just around the local islands there. If you look at a map, there are a group of about 4-5 small islands just a short ferry ride above the airport. Lots of pension houses there.
Nomad I found out it is not easy to get a space-A flight out of Osan. We were waiting for about 4 days and I finally just said to hell with it and bought a commercial flight. Actually got a good last minute deal.
Right now we are staying at the Okuma military resort. On monday, we will move over to White Beach for a few days before flying back.
Will either be getting a fishing charter tomorrow here or tuesday at white beach. Haven’t made up my mind yet.
Dave
That’s too bad about the lack of space-A flights – I guess it’s because they stopped the freedom bird flights. Back in the good old days, it was basically, show up, fly over, and the same was true on the other end.
Okuma and White Beach rock. I have a lot of fond memories of camping out at White Beach…and it’s a miracle that I do have those memories, considering how hammered we used to get
Good luck with the fishing!
Now that looks like a lot of fun. Good going Hunter Dave, and enjoy your time in Okinawa.
Well we’re back from Okinawa. Unfortunately we weren’t able to get out on a charter. Okuma will not be running out until sometime in September and none of the other locations had anything going out during the week unless I wanted to book an entire charter solo. Was hoping to join in on a trip. None of the civilian charters had anything going either. Was going to be a little rough anyway due to the tropical weather to the SW.
Did enjoy Okinawa though. Forgot how expensive Japan can be.
One of the first things we noticed when we PCS’d to Korea from Okinawa was the lack of blue skies here like we had there. I miss Okinawa and wouldn’t mind getting back there for a few years, as long as I could live on base…running that A/C 24/7 off base is a killer!
It was definately hot. And that humidity was way up there too. Took a hike to a waterfall. By the time I got there, I looked like I had swam upstream.
Tropical paradise…
