Why I Go

I’ll let the pics speak for themselves:

Mother nature in all her glory.

IMG_1896 Of course, I also go fishing to catch fish but being able to witness a sunrise like the one today absolutely makes my day complete.  As for the fishing, it was more dinks today as you can see by the pic on the left; that was the biggest one I landed.  Even though I had a stiff wind in my face, I also threw a spinnerbait for a while and managed to lose not one, but two bass when they jumped and threw the lure.  One was only about 1/2 a pound, and I must have hit the fish in the head because that one hit the lure the second it hit the water; I never even had a chance to start reeling.  The second fish was somewhere between 2 1/2 and 3 pounds, and when that one jumped and threw the lure, it irked me just a tad smile_tongue.  I know, I should be using a trailer hook but that river is so full of snags that I really don’t want to add yet another item that can get hung up on a rock, net or rope.  I lose enough lures out there as it is.  KMA claims we’re in for some heavy rain over the next day or two so I have a feeling it’ll be a few days before I get another chance to get back out there again.

That’s a nice sunrise Nomad, no chance of seeing one of those down here this morning, it’s been raining solid all day long here — and I was going to go night fishing tonight

That spinnerbait tactic (casting into a strong wind) has by far one of my best techniques this year, it’s great if you can live with all the overruns you get. Also, I have never used a trailer hook on a spinnerbait, I do lose a few fish, but never lose enough to feel I need a trailer hook.

    Steve,

Thanks…the rain also moved in up here around mid-morning and it’s been on and off ever since. I was lucky this morning, the wind was in my face but at a slight angle to me so I was able to cast off to one side without having to cast straight into the wind. I also used more of a side-arm cast, which seems to help alleviate the overruns when conditions are like that. I’m not brave enough to cast straight into a strong wind yet, especially with something like a spinnerbait.

As you already know Nomad, saw that same sunrise on my way to work yesterday. Nice!

You always are good for a good sunrise photo. At least the morning wasn’t a wash. I have been itching to get back out again but things are looking pretty grim for me

    Rob,

Thanks, hopefully you can get back out there real soon.

    hacker,

This rain we got put a damper in my plans as well, at least for the next few days. That river is nasty right now!

Be another couple of weeks for me Nomad, but I plan on hitting it hard and heavy this Fall.
