Ramps and 7-inch Senkos

First, some great news!  Not too long ago, someone (someone, like a netter) had the only remaining boat ramp on the river blocked by having a mound of dirt put at the entrance:

It wasn’t looking good for the home team.  But then, someone (I’m not sure if he wants me to use his name on this blog) took the initiative and paid a contractor not only to remove the dirt, but to also expand and grade the old ramp so that it’s better than ever!

The aforementioned person is now a hero among numerous boat owners smile_regular

As for the other part of the title of this post, I started out using a 7-inch Senko this morning and look what I caught!  LOL.  I have no idea what this bass was even thinking, going after a worm that big but once again it goes to show you that these fish will hit just about anything, regardless of size.

This one here is the only other one I caught that was even close to being picture-worthy, the other few were true dinks.  But the highlight of the morning was seeing the ramp with my own eyes.  Let’s just hope that the netters don’t put another mound of dirt at the entrance!

That ramp looks great, but to be honest, if the netters went to so much trouble the first time, I think they may do it again. Let’s just hope they take the hint and leave it alone so that I can bring my boat up there.

7″ senkos  I bet those will be great baits during the fall as the bass are feeding up for the winter months.

    Steve,

If they fill it in again, we now have someone that’ll clear it again for us. We’ll wear them down, eventually.

Yeah man, I thought I’d give 7-inch Senkos a try, I caught a nice one using them a while back but this morning didn’t turn out that way :)

Love that mound of trash on the side, it gives the lake that needed scenic touch.

    Tex,
I was thinking the same thing.

BTW, I am headed back to Busan soon for another Amberjack run.
    10 days and counting.
I’m about as excited as a jackrabbit on prom night!
    Dave

  6. Nomad says:

Dave! You’re still with us!

At first, I was going to omit the trash but then I thought, “why?” After all, trash on the shore of a lake or river makes it so much more…”Korea.” ;)

Please send us your Amberjack pics and fishing report once you get back, Mr. jackrabbit

    HD,

“I’m about as excited as a jackrabbit on prom night!”

You just about made me spit my coffee out in laughter  Can’t wait to see your pics. Good luck out there.

    Nomad,

You were right in putting it on the picture. Without it, it just wouldn’t have that Korean touch to it ;-) Funny, how I still miss the heck out of Korea. I will be there for the summer so hopefully I’ll see you all out there at the river next year.

  8. Rob says:

Good luck down in Busan Jackrabbit!!! :)

And Tex, if you get back here this summer let’s definitely get together for some fishing and beer drinking socializing. :)

  9. Steve says:

Good luck HunterDave, I wish I could join you for some Amberjack fun, but I will be leaving again in just over a weeks time

    Steve,

The Amberjacks run up until about middle to late November so you just may still have an oppurtunity to get into them if your back. Dadapo, where the Amberjack fishing is at, is also one beautiful place, except for the edges of the marina or whatever you call the place where the boats dock. Lots of trash there  , but away from that area are a ton of very beautiful and scenic islands where the Amberjacks make their run.

How are the seas Tex Mex? I have a tendency to get seasick, which is not a pretty sight!!! But, if I can actually see land (i.e. islands) I might be able to hack it for a day. Sounds really fun.

  12. Tex Mex says:

Most of the time you are in sight of islands except for the early morning which is dark and you can’t see anything but the lights off other boats. It isn’t that bad but I did take a just retired naval submarine officer who tossed his ccokies several times  Ofcourse, that could have also been from staying up all night drinking and heading straight to the docks afterwards, without any sleep, for the trip  That was the last time we ever did that. Recommend plenty of rest.

  13. Rob says:

Hmmm, that very well may have been my problem in the past as well Tex Mex. LOL Maybe I should try ocean fishing without a hangover, and then see if I get sick or not. :)

  14. Nomad says:

Going by my past experiences in the Gulf when I was at Ft. Walton Beach, I’ll pass…I get seasick very easily and that’s one feeling I don’t want to re-experience. LOL, I was worried about getting seasick yesterday out on the river with those waves we had.

  15. Steve says:

Lol guys. Luckily I don’t suffer with seasickness, so I think I’ll get the Mrs to find more info on these Amberjack trips, she is from Busan.

  16. hunterdave99 says:

    Steve,
The number to the guy TexMex set me up with is 051-264-5438.
He is just one of many in that area who charter trips for the amberjacks.
Come on guys, the waves aren’t that bad. Just have your wives pick up a motion sickness patch from a local pharmacy and place it behind your ear. Those things really work.
    Dave

  17. Steve says:

Thanks for that number H/Dave. If you get the chance to fish for them in November I will try and join you (if you don’t mind!)

I know this was discussed before here, but does this guy supply all the tackle or should I take my own??

  18. Wilsong says:

    Gentlemen,

If anyone needs additional people in November to charter a trip for Amberjack I would love a shot at joining in. November will be a slow month at work and I might possibly get away.

  19. steve wong says:

hey guys, i just happened upon your thread here, and also if you need one one more to go amberjack fishing, i would join also. frank and steve have my email. available almost any weekend with advanced notice. take care guys . great fish!!!

  20. hunterdave99 says:

Our group of 8 is going out this Monday. Should be a good time. I can’t make it out again in November. Will be time to hit the local trout ponds and to get the skis ready for one last winter before I head to San Antonio next summer.

  21. Tex Mex says:

    Guys,

You all can call the charter and make arrangements if you can set a group of at least 4-5. The price is the same for boat as you are chartering that boat. Ofcousre, the more you get the less it costs, but also too many makes for lines getting snagged with each other as the current below the boat runs prtety fast. You do need some strong rods as they will break rods when they make runs. A good strong ugly stick spinning rod with a spinning reel that handles up to 15 pound line will handle them. The Koreans use the super long 12 feet or longer collapsable saltwater spinning outifts. You will also need to buy some special floats that they sell out there. The charter will get your stuff fixed for you if you go the night before the trip. When I went, they also provided some Korean snacks but it may have changed. It’s a trip worth the money. If you call before, the charter will be honest and tell you if they are still catching them and will let you know how many they have been bringing in. I have had them tell us the fish were not on so it shows he was honest.
