I went out for a few hours yesterday morning, just for a few hours of bank fishing. I started at one lake and caught 6 bass of decent sizes between 12 and 14 inches. Most were caught early on buzzbaits and caught a couple on the Neko rig and spinnerbaits.
Then I stopped off at a service station for some lunch on the way home and thought I would hit another lake on my way home. The “on the way home” lake is always very tough to fish from the bank, and yesterday was no different. I got one bass on a buzzbait, but it was a nice one – 43cm and 2lb 1oz.
Tomorrow I am heading back to that great Friday lake with my inflatable boat, hopefully I will have a repeat of last Friday
Steve,
Your Tuesday was a heck of a lot better than my Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday combined!
DINKS!!!!
Good luck out there tomorrow!
Steve,
As far as I’m concerned, there is no funner and exciting way to catch bass than with a buzzbait. Great job. Steve, I have a friend in Taegu that loves to bass fish and has fished the recent tournaments with the Korean pros at Andong and I believe a recent international tournament at Chunchon. I had told him you fish a lot of the southernm areas and that maybe he could hook up with you as you seem to know a lot of the good spots. Is it possible to talk via personal email if you have no issues helping my buddy out. He is a great guy. Nomad and Rob both have my personal email. He also knows about the amberjack fishing comming up in a month or two that is awesome and close to your location. Thanks.
You know, I’ve never caught a bass on a buzzbait…heck, I’ve never caught one on a topwater lure, period. I always give up on them after a few casts with no results. It could be the area I fish…just open water with no weeds.
Hey Tex, I will send you an email shortly regarding your Taegu buddy
I would love to try fishing for those amberjacks and Busan is just around the corner from me. When do you normally go fishing for them??
Nomad,
Do not give up topwaters, once you catch a bass (big or small) you will be hooked (pun intended). I find the early morning and later afternoon to be the best time to catch them on buzzbaits, and this time of the years is best when the bass are chasing bait fish in the shallows. Try fishing a buzzbait parallel to the shoreline where we both fished that time.
Steve,
You are right on the money about getting hooked on topwaters once you catch some on them. The other thing is that although buzz baits are not weedless somehow they do go through all kinds of cover without getting snagged. I attach a trailer hook and still I used to throw a buzzbait in heavy cover to include the timber areas at Andong and never got snagged. The Amberjack fishing goes on up until usually mid to late Nov but can vary. These are some of the hardest fighting fish I have ever caught and these are only 4-7 pounds with an occasional 20 pounder. I can only imagine what a 20 pounder would feel like as the 4-7 pounders themselves feel like you got a 20 plus pound fish on.
