Andong, Nov 21st and 22nd

What a weekend!!!!

I went to Andong this past weekend just to watch the 2 day tournament, the KSA Bass Master Classic and get a feel for how these kind of tournaments work. I ended up meeting 2 awesome guys (Pete and Ruben) that looked after me the whole weekend and put in me in contact with some very nice and influential folks in the Korean Bass fishing industry. Pete and Ruben took me to the Halmony place where we spent the night, had some good food and a few beverages  :)

I ended up entering into the Amateur tournament, bank fishing from 8:00am until 12 noon where we could weigh in up to 2 bass. I only managed one 12 inch bass, but it was good enough to get me 5th place and a spot on the podium, which was kinda cool. I won a plaque and a Surecatch baitcasting rod and reel worth 200,000won. I guess there was around 50 people fishing in the amateurs. I didn’t get any photos of my fish, but I caught it on a wacky rigged 5” watermelon/red senko.

Pete had a good weekend bringing in fish both days and he ended up in 8th place overall out of 50 or 60 boats, so congrats to Pete. Unfortunately, Ruben was having fish finder problems on both days. Pete, Ruben, if you guys see this, thank you for all you help and friendship over the weekend, I had a blast!

Here’s a few snaps from the weekend…

    Steve,

Awesome job in scoring fifth. Bet you weren’t expecting to come out of there with a new fishing outfit and plaque. Man do I miss the Korean way of doing things. Fishing, drinking soju, beer and eating anju. Anyways, I want to wish all of you folks a Happy Thanksgiving Holiday.

  2. Nomad says:

Way to go Steve! The power of the Senko comes through again ;) Ack, frost on the boats!

Tex Mex, a happy Thanksgiving to you as well!

  3. Rob says:

Nice going Steve! I knew if you ran into those guys that they’d hook you up. I’m glad that you were able to make it down there.

And yes, Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

  4. wilsong says:

Good job, Steve. Way to go. Did Pete and Ruben tune you in to the Amateur tournament going on simultaneously? Sounds like good times if you can find out about the opportunities in advance.

  5. wilsong says:

Oh and Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Steve, you blend in well in the picture on the KSA site.

  6. Rob says:

Can anyone spot Steve in the pic? ;)

  7. Steve says:

    Thank you everyone!!

Tex – You are right, I only went there to watch the show, I never even expected to fish.

Nomad – I actually caught it on a Alluringbaits copy senko. I only had limited tackle with me and all of my real GY Senkos were donated to the bottom of Andong lake, lol

Rob – Pete and Ruben made my weekend. Both are great fellas. If I can get into the Challenger Pro League next year, I will be seeing a lot more of them. And where did you find that photo?? I looked all over the KSA site and couldn’t find any.

Wilsong – yes it was Pete and Ruben that directed me to the right people to fish the amatuers, and to get more info on fishing the Challenger League next year.

Happy Thanksgiving guys, enjoy your turkey today!

  8. Rob says:

Steve, it was somewhere in the depths of their site, can’t remember exactly where though. And I think you’d be great for the Challenger League. Go for it man!

  9. Steve says:

I just took another look on the KSA site and found it.
After talking with Pete and Ruben, I was convinced to give the Challenger Pro League a try next year, and I’m looking forward to it. The wife has also given her approval (which helps)

  10. Nomad says:

Hmmmm I can’t tell which one is Steve in that pic

  11. Steve says:

Nomad, I’m certainly not the guy in the middle on the top step, lol
