Tough Tuesday

I went back to the lake I fished last Wednesday when I caught 9 nine bass. The weather forecast was showing an almost identical weather from last week, so I thought I’d take the boat out again. Well the weather forecast was slightly off — lol

The water temps had dropped about 4 degrees and the air temps were down a little. Needless to say with the water temps being lower, the fishing was tougher.

I only managed to land 3 bass all day, missed 1 or 2 bites from what I think were just dinks and lost one when my knot failed  :(   2 of the 3 bass were nice 18 inch bass. The weird thing is, they were both the same length, but one was almost 1 pound heavier. One was caught on a hard jerkbait and the other on a shallow crank.

And last but not least, the little one caught on a 4” copy senko with a wacky jighead.

Good looking fish for this time of year. Am in Hokkaido right now, so don’t know what the weather is like around Seoul, but doesn’t look too bad in your neck of the woods.

  2. Steve says:

Thanks Wilsong. The bigger fish always seem to eat more than the dinks during the winter months, so I usually catch less fish, but better quality fish.
I fished in Jinju which is quite high in the mountains compared to where I live and it reached 55 degrees yesterday while I was fishing. Where I live is alway a little warmer.

Keep it up for as long as you can Steve!!!

Nice fish, Steve. Hopefully the weather will stay nice enough for you to fish through most of the winter.

  5. Steve says:

I hope so too Nomad. How’s the weather been up there?? any chance of some lunchtime bassin’??

    Steve,

Although it hasn’t been *that* cold up here the last few days, it’s been raining pretty good and everything is a wet, soggy mess.
I need to get me a rod rack for the inside of my SUV…do you have a rod rack in yours or do you just pile the rods in there?

  7. Steve says:

I just posted to your question in Ultimate Bass with a great rod rack, although it is a little pricey.

I made my own rod rack that holds 10 rods, don’t you remember it?? If I can work out how to post photos in this post I will show you mine.

Edit; I can’t figure it out, any hints on how to add photos to an old post??

You could always email the pics to me

They are on the way to you right now ;-)

I’ve bought and used two different rod racks. First one couldn’t handle its max 10 rods and collapsed. Second one sags down too low from the roof plus only holds 4 rods.

    Steve
What material did you use for your racks?

  11. Steve says:

Wilsong, my rack is made of a long piece of 4″ x 3″ wood (that I had laying around) and it’s covered with some grey boat deck carpet (that I had laying around) and has 10 short pieces of pvc tube with an inside diameter a little bigger than my rod handles (that I had laying around) and those are attached to the wood and carpet using stainless steel clamps (which I had to buy  ).

I’ll send you some photos via email ;-)

Good pictures. Could probably build a frame to support the PVC tubes. What holds up the tips?

  13. Steve says:

Nothing. I just angled the PVC tubes up toward the front so that there is some tension and bend in the rods so that the tips are pressed to the roof of the car. It’s also good that way so that anyone sitting in the back seats don’t have rods hitting their heads, and there is still plenty of room incase I have my inflatable boat stuff on the back seat.

    I’m looking at these racks:

The only drawback so far is that I have a brand new vehicle and I’m not sure if I want to glue/attach those brackets to my windows.

I looked at this one but I heard they tend to sag: http://tinyurl.com/ybz2bta

Then, there’s also this model: http://tinyurl.com/yeudwz6

The racks in the first link get my vote.

I agree with you on the second one. I made one similar to the second link and it sagged terrible and the rods shifted way too much.

The rack in the last link looks to be only good for carrying rods (without reels attached) as the holders/holes look way too close to each other.

I have tried the last two. The web set up does sag. I didn’t like it.

Rod loft worked OK at first but had trouble keeping suction cups attached and later the screw attaching the beams to the components that held on to the car whether suction cups or handles over the passenger seat kept coming apart. Maybe I didn’t adjust them right.

    Steve

Two piece rods with reels attached were not a problem as there is a strap on the rear holder that lets you lay them into the carrier and fasten over the top.
