Some Pics from Ty

My friend Ty sent me the following pics and writeup:

Here are some pics from Kunsan from last Thursday (the first 4 pics). I caught five at Kunsan but I don’t know were that last pic went. Pics from this morning (the last 2). We headed out at 6:45. I caught two and lost another one close to shore. Jim only caught one and it was a dink and lost another to some concertina wire in the water, he waded out to it because he didn’t want to loose his first bass of 2010 and lifted the wire up but no Bass was in sight. Owen, poor fella didn’t have any luck but did manage to get one bite.

Nice going, guys. Are you guys letting Owen use your Senkos or are you making him fish with a bare hook? And tell Jim that if he didn’t spend so much time smoking out there, he’d catch more fish. ;-)

  2. Rob says:

Nice going guys!! I caught a couple and missed three or four after talking to you guys earlier today, will post some pics later on.

  3. Ty says:

Thanks Nomad for posting the pics. Owen did use senkos but it must be the action I guess. Jim smoking, no way. lol WTG Rob, I knew you would caught some. It was a windy day and I think if there was no wind we would have caught a few more.

    Nice fish guys
Everyone seems to be getting into some fish which is good…

Btw, i went for my first fish this arvo for a couple of hours trying to get my first largemouth..
My missus ended up breaking the tip of my light rod which kinda gave me the sh!ts lol
I had to use my saltwater rod(nitro magnum) which was no fun at all..
No bass yet… But i did catch 8 or 9 fish spinning with metal slices.
Not sure of what they were but the missus said they were good eating haha
They have a body shape similar to a tarpon or herring, does anyone know what they were?
About 35cm long.. Also there were MASSIVE trout free jumping out of the water every 20mins or so but i couldn’t hook one.. Anyone know any techniques to try and get 1? They were thicker than my arm!!!
Anyways it was just good to get a couple of fish on my first outing =)

Good going Ty, those are some nice bass.

    Tri,
Did you get any photos of the fish you caught?

  7. tri says:

    Yeh I did…
I’ll upload them soon as my missus sends me the pics from her comp..
Strange looking fish though, no teeth but the bottom jaw was much longer and hooked up..

  8. Nomad says:

Maybe freshwater tarpon? Did they look like this?

  9. tri says:

    I think thats it
Thanks mate, I wasn’t expecting much of a fight out of them with me using a 4-8kg rod hahah
Got myself a new rod today so hopefully next time i can have a little fun with a much bigger model..
Or my first bass or one of those freaking huge trout that i could see jumping all over the place..
Do bass live in the same sort of water/area as these river tarpon and trout?
Would i hook trout and bass on metal spoon lures?
Might give it another go in a couple of days and try and make it a regular thing

I’m having trouble understanding trout and the river tarpon in same water. Thought the river tarpon were only in lower stretches of rivers here. Trout unless in a stocked pond are mostly in small streams in mountains or maybe below dams in some places.

What water were you fishing? Steve, Rob, Nomad big trout jumping around in a Korean body of water?

To answer your question on the bass, they are usually in slow moving or still water around cover rather than in the river current. But Stever and Nomad can give much better info than me.

  11. Nomad says:

Hmmm, I was wondering if maybe, he was seeing carp jumping? In the river that I fish, I have small to large carp jumping and splashing all around me every morning. The first few times I went fishing here, I thought they were bass and I thought I was onto a bass gold mine!

  12. Wilsong says:

Yep, my suspicion also. All my life I have seen large carp jump and especially in the spring and early summer.

  13. tri says:

    hahha yeh…
Sorry bout the mix up, I got a little excited..
Pretty sure now the were carp.. BIG ones lol not really interested though..
Does this mean that there wouldnt be any bass in this section of the river?
The place I’m fishing is a big river called Daecheong I think…

  14. Nomad says:

    tri,

If the river has some deep spots, structure/cover (like rocks/rip rap) and also has carp in it, then I would suspect that there are also bass present. Have you walked around shore to check if there are empty bags of plastic worms, or discarded packages for hooks, spinnerbaits etc, stuff one would use for bass? That, besides other bass fishermen, is always a pretty good indication.

  15. Ty says:

Thanks guys, I went out today and caught a few. I think the time has come for the Pyoungteak area. Frank I’m ready on Friday. Just give me a time and location to link up.

  16. tri says:

Nope there was noone fishing at all…
A little suprised there wasn’t any carp fishermen out with all those big carp about…
Not even any rubbish around which is good.
I should be heading there again on Wed and I’ll have a better look around…
    Thanks for the help guys..
