What’s Next, Snow?

Ty and I took the boat out again today, and we fished the same areas and type of structure that we fished last Friday.  Unfortunately, the weather today was nothing like last Friday; today was cold, hazy and after a few hours, the wind started picking up and continued to gain strength as the day wore on (You can see how calm the water was in the first few pics but that didn’t last long at all).  And with the cold temperatures, it made for mighty uncomfortable fishing conditions (We weren’t wearing gloves to look cool, that’s for sure).  But, we did manage to catch some fish in the time we were out there.

You can see in several of the pics the type of structure were were fishing; again, it was anywhere we could find reeds and weeds extending out into the water.  Except for the one caught on a jig, all bass were caught on 5-inch Senkos, fished Texas-rigged, and fished very slow and very shallow.   The water temperature has slipped down about 8 degrees since last Friday, the average was around 50 today, where last week, we saw temps around 58, and even near 60 in a few spots.  The day started out bad; we missed our first 3 or 4 fish right off the bat and I bet we missed another 10 bass after that.  But the fish were really acting strange out there.  They would hit the worm, then immediately drop it, or would pick it up and run, but when we set the hook, there’d be nothing there.  Also, I think every one of the bigger fish we caught picked up the worm without any taps or other warning; suddenly there was a weight on the end of the line, and we could see the line moving in one direction.  As promised, I tried some other lures today; my goal was to finally use a jig and catch something on it, and yippee, I did but I found out that one can waste a lot of fishing time while throwing jigs, and it’s painful to watch your partner catch fish on Senkos while you’re trying to stick to something else.  But after Ty landed that one really nice fish which measured 46 centimeters and weighed close to 4 pounds, I said the heck with jigs and went back to Senkos smile_teeth  I also tried a chatterbait  for a while but as you can see, that was a waste of time.  I think with these cold air and water temps, the bass just aren’t in the mood to go chasing after anything that’s moving very fast.  Heck, as cold as it was out there on the water today, neither Ty or myself were in the mood to move around very much either.  Although shortened by the weather, today was yet another great day; we caught some nice fish and I finally caught one on a jig.  And if it’s decent out, we’ll be back out there again next week for yet another installment ;) .

 Nomad, yet another great day even though it was cut short a few hours. Thanks again for hosting me on another great fishing adventure. I loved it! Waiting again for the offer to accompany Nomad and the SS NetCutterrrr for bigger bass. Let’s get her done!

My pleasure, Ty. I plan on taking a few days off at the end of next week for my birthday, so if it’s nice, we’ll take the boat out again and start out in the same area, except maybe next time, we’ll start out on the right side. Or, we can try another part of the river but hey, as long as we’re having this kind of luck fishing where we have been, I say stick with it till the bass move out, which won’t be long from now.

Good going guys!!! :) But if I have to sit at work while you guys go fishing AGAIN next Friday, I may go freaking NUTS!!! LOL

  4. Nomad says:

Ok Rob, we’ll go out Wednesday or Thursday instead, will that make you feel any better? Rob, anytime you want to downgrade and sit in my tiny inflatable non-bass boat which doesn’t have a gas motor or a deck, I’d be honored to have you along, you know that. I’ll even give you the seat up front ;)

Wow, you guys really are on fire…
Seem like nothings gonna stop you two from catching fish, nice work fellas.

    tri,

A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, a wise man once said, “He who fishes with Senkos, catches fish.”

  7. Rob says:

No, it won’t make me feel any better. LOL But really, Wednesday and Thursday might not be bad days to take off and go.

Nomad, I just noticed your battery, and no I’m not going to talk about the color of it, LOL ;-) , but I have an extra set of those quick disconnect terminals with the big wing nuts if you want them.

It’s supposed to rain Monday and Wednesday

I like that color. Makes it easy to locate the battery anywhere, any time and yeah, I could use those terminals if you don’t need them.

Yet again, great catches guys. You proved you can still catch them even in less than good conditions. I’m really looking forward to next weekend now

Where abouts did you launch the S.S. Netcutter from and how far did you travel?

  11. Nomad says:

    Steve,

We launched further down river, at one of the areas where you and I fished…I don’t know if you remember or not, but you and I ended up driving down a long rice paddy road and ended up on a gravel point (check your email). We launched close to there and fished that entire area. The bad part is, there are tons of nets in and around there so you’re constantly going in between them or around them or the ropes to get from one small spot to the next and that entire area is pretty shallow. But, the plus side to that is that the bigger boats don’t come down that way; most of them end up fishing the same spots every time they go out so I don’t even think about fishing where they fish. Also, most of the spots Ty and I have been fishing aren’t very fishable from shore so it’s a win-win for us.

Got you emails Nomad thanks ;-)
I think I remember that place, wasn’t it the sandy beach area?

  13. Nomad says:

That’s right Steve, the sandy beach area.
