That’s what Ty and I did today; we kicked ass, took names and had one of the best days fishing either one of us has ever had. We decided to head out at 5 so we could get on the water at first light but the day started out cold, wet, and windy; last night’s rain front was still with us and things looked mighty bleak for the home team. But the bass sure didn’t mind one bit and after an hour or so, the rain passed and the wind died down (for a while, anyway) and we were catching bass like mad. We started out just like last week and missed our first 4 or 5 and ended up missing at least 15 total over the course of the day.
I have no idea what was going on today but we’ve never seen so many carp fishermen out there. They were out in force and were everywhere; that area in the pic above is usually empty but as you can see, it was packed today, despite the weather. Yes Rob, that’s the blue barge area…unbelievable, isn’t it? There were so many carp muttons out there that we couldn’t fish any of that area at all.
Ok, let’s get to the good stuff. Bass. We didn’t take any pics of the small dinks, of which we caught at least 10 today, so if you’re counting, add that to the below total for the day.
That, my friends, is what I call a most excellent day out on the water. We repeated the exact same pattern as the two previous trips out; fishing shallow water where there were reeds and weeds. Ty caught his first bass on a jig (WTG, Ty!
), and I caught a “Big Momma” which came in at 3 pounds, 11 ounces (I thought it was 3.12 but when I looked at the pic, it says 3.11). All bass except the one were caught on 5-inch Senkos, fished nice and slow in and around the vegetation. We also tried spinnerbaits and I fished a jig for a while and had one bite, which I missed. The water temperature is back up to around 58, which is nice to see.
Unfortunately, around noon the wind started kicking up something fierce and was so bad that the anchor wouldn’t hold the boat in place – it was almost impossible to fish so we called it day. Otherwise, we’d still be out there chucking Senkos and jigs. Again, this was without a doubt one of the best days I’ve ever had fishing and hopefully, the weather will cooperate and we’ll be back out there next week sometime, doing it all again so stay tuned!
.
Holy cow, I hope the fishing is like that over the rest of the weekend. WTG guys!
Steve,
Me too! I hope you kick ass and take names too
If I don’t have a chance to get out there to tell you in person, good luck in the tournament, Steve and I hope at least one of my tips pays off for you
Nomad, I’m speechless and man, thank you for allowing me to accompany you on another great fishing adventure from the SS Netcutter. I’m truly thankful and yeah, we took it to them Bass today brother.
Steve take care of business during the tournament and Get Her Done!
Ty,
I think the Big Man gave me the best birthday present possible which was a great day fishing; I’ll have to put a little something extra in the offering basket on Sunday
Yeah man, I keep looking at all these pics and I just have to shake my head in amazement. Can you imagine if the water had stayed calm after noon? There’s a full moon next week, let’s hope for some decent weather! I have plenty of leave, how about you?
It sounds like a day of fishing again next week. Count me in please!
Nice going guys, AGAIN!!!
And here I thought the wind, cold and threat of rain had kept the SS Netcutter at anchor. Will you guys please some uncaught fish in the river. They are all going to develop a memeory and avoid Steve and my hooks this weekend.
Good stuff, gentlemen, good stuff.
Ack! That IS the blue barge area!!! WTH?
Nomad,
You all kicked ass and took names as you stated. Those days don’t always happen but when they do, man do they make a fishing addict of anyone. Great job.
Tex Mex,
LOL, I’m already an “addict” so where do I go from here? But yeah, it was definitely one of those days!
Wilsong,
No worries, the area we fish is sort of off the beaten path. I hope you guys slay ‘em out there this weekend!
Rob,
It was unreal…along that one area, one carp mutton after the other. Maybe it’s the carp spawn or something? I’ve never seen anything like it, especially on a weekday.
Ty,
One day of nice weather and it’s on, buddy
OMG!!!! That’s absolutely crazy…..
Nice lot of fish Nomad and Ty.
I think if the fish were on like that nobody would mind the wind and rain hahah
Good work fellas, you guys brained them..
tri,
A day like that is rare, heck, it’s the first one like that for me, ever, and I’m grateful Ty and I had a chance to be out on a day when the bass were so ready and willing. I went out with Rob a couple of years ago and we had a day that I thought would never be surpassed (I think we caught around 30 that day) but yeah, Friday was just unreal. I can’t imagine what kind of day it would have turned into had the wind not forced us to cut our time short (we only fished for about 6 hours!).
So you guys left them biting?
I don’t think I’d be able to do that if the action was that hot.
Though in Oz we have a thing were if we leave while the bite is hot then it would bring us luck next trip..
Superstitious lot we are lol hopefully it works out for you again next trip =)
tri,
We had no choice…it was so windy that we couldn’t get the boat to sit still; the waves and wind were pulling the anchor loose and on top of that, with that wind it made casting almost impossible.
Nomad, you could of tied your boat onto one of the many nets out there to use as an anchor, I saw several people doing it on Sunday.
Way to go Nomad. I’m jealous. I think the fish have something going on Fridays! That’s twice now that you’ve gone out on a Friday and nailed ‘em and I’ve followed you up on Saturday with mediocre luck. (I’m looking at my work schedule for this Friday!!!)
Mike,
I have 2 words for you: SENKO POWER.
I’m not sure if I’ll try it this Friday after the rain we had last night and the gale force winds we’re having today, which are supposed to last at least through Thursday (according to KMA).
