Saturday Afternoon

I worked on Saturday morning, but I found a little spare time to have a few casts during the afternoon. I had a few bites that I missed and a dink that hung me up in some snags.

But I did manage to land this decent little guy on a 4” watermelon/red senko copy wacky rigged.

Right at the end of the day I hooked into a fish that felt like a good size, then all of a sudden, whatever it was woke up and started ripping line from my spinning reel, but my drag was too tight and it snapped my 6lb line right at the hook (cry, cry!!). I’m guessing it must of been a big carp or a snakehead, I guess we’ll never know.

Nice Steve! I hate it when the line snaps, join the crowd brother. It’s been real windy here at Osan. Glad to see you caught fish. My gold this year is no skunks, but it’s bound to happen. Take care.

Thanks Ty. It’s rather windy down here also today, but I’m stuck at work so I don’t mind.
I also started the year trying for no skunks, but I think I’ve had 5 or 6 skunks so far tis year, it’s been a very strange winter/spring

Can I join the “line snapped” club? Actually, I think I’m the founding father

Nice going Steve. At least you got out there. This spring has absolutely sucked for weather, don’t know what’s going on.

We’ve been trying our luck at some Korean Bass fishing lately. Went out this weekend (what a beautiful weekend it was) got skunked both days. We literally threw everything in our boxes. I am convinced that we were in a terrible part of the river (though it looked like a premo spot!) The lake we paid 5000 won to fish in yielded the same results!

  6. steve says:

Where abouts are you fishing Brandon??

  7. Nomad says:

    Brandon,

Not sure where you were fishing…was anyone else fishing for bass in that river? I’ve been having a lot of luck in areas where there are lots of weeds/reeds and/or rocks, with Senkos and spinnerbaits.

Fished the east & north on the pay lake just south of the bass pond on 82. See the link:

Like Brandon said, we threw everything from senkos to spinners, cranks and poppers all to no avail. We also fished the south bank at the north end of this lake which looked promising because there were quite a few other KN’s fishing for bass. So now that we got skunked 2x on this lake we took of for another spot down on the py river. just north of the bait shop. Nice area with tons of trees and grass (see link) and what seemed would make some great cover in the water but……nothing. I guess that’s why they call it fishing and not catching right!!

    SIMP,

The first link is Idong lake and it does have bass in it, and bluegill, although both are harder and harder to find as time goes by. In the second link, it looks like you were close to Osan AB, and there are also bass in that part of the river, although I’ve only fished the section closer to Osan, right behind the flightline near where the radar and ADA batteries are. Idong is a little bit of a mystery…one thing to remember about that lake is that there’s literally no structure on the bottom. Nothing but rocks and mud so if and when I do fish it, I try to target any trees, brush, weeds and any clumps of vegetation out in the water. There’s a creek that comes in near the 45 overpass, and if you follow the dirt road down as far as you can go, you can walk the rest of the way to a point and if you have waders, you can wade out into that creek and find some really nice cover, especially near the mouth.

The second link is actually just east of Pyeongtaek just north on the east fork. (hope that didnt confuse you, i got lost typing it) We fished from shore under some awesome trees that provided great cover. I believe though that we were just fishing the right spot at the wrong time. Might have to try it again earlier in the morning. I try to round up about 3-5 guys from our shop to head out each weekend and get them out of the barracks and have some fun. Hope this weekends luck turns around and we start landing some decent size bass and not the dinks we have been landing.

    SIMP,

You should have some great weather this weekend, good luck out there and let us know how it goes!

  12. Brandon says:

All we can do is try. I’m hopeful. If one thing is for sure. We’re narrowing down the spots NOT to fish. haha

  13. Nomad says:

    Brandon,

The only thing I don’t like about weekends are the crowds; that’s why I try to limit my fishing to weekdays, before work; and usually I’m the only one out there. Peace and quiet and no one running to cast into the spot I just caught a bass out of.
On the river, I usually look for reeds, weeds, and most of all, rocks along shore (I guess people call that rip rap).
