Yellow and White

That’s the color spinnerbait I WISH I would have had today, because for whatever reason, that’s what the bass wanted.  Oh, and with a single Colorado blade at that.  Once again, Ty and I took out the SS Netcutter and I have to admit, I was kind or worried due to the massive cold/rain front that moved through yesterday and the fact that KMA was calling for high winds for most of the day today.  When we got to the launch area, the wind was indeed kicking pretty good and it was also quite chilly out.  We got the boat set up and launched in record time, and we were on the water before the sun came up.  Here’s what followed:

If you’re counting, you can add at least 15 dinks that we didn’t take pictures of to the above total so, another pretty darned good day out there.  If you’re really observant, you’ll notice two things; that in most of those pics, that’s Ty’s arm hanging out there with a fish attached, and in most of those, there’s a yellow/white spinnerbait with a single Colorado blade hanging out of the bass’s mouth.  Ty was just killing them out there with that lure today and there was no denying him.  The man was a true fishing machine, hands down.  Me, well, I’d like to say that my excuse was that I was trying jigs, red/white spinnerbaits and crankbaits but that’s not going to cut it.  I managed one on a red/white spinnerbait, nothing on jigs, and nothing on crankbaits.  My fish were caught on black, 5-inch Senkos.  Ty fished mainly with that magical Wal Mart spinnerbait, alternating with 5-inch Senkos, black and black with blue flakes.  He claims he had a horseshoe up his butt today and I’m inclined to believe him smile_teeth.  We fished the same areas and type of structure as in our last few trips out but that’s getting harder to do because the weeds that were under the water have grown to where they’re well above water now, and there’s so much of the green algae/moss that with every cast, you’re dragging in a bunch of it on your lure.  Despite the strong winds and a cold start, it turned out to be yet another awesome day out there; we caught several around 3 pounds and racked up some good numbers once again.  Oh, and a big thanks to Steve for suggesting using a dumbbell as an anchor, we took along a 20-pound dumbbell and used it as a second anchor and that boat never budged an inch smile_regular.

    Ty,

Once again, my pleasure! And tell your wife that the only reason I ask you to go fishing is because of the great sandwiches she makes for us, she is spoiling me for sure

Great going guys, and YES, I’m searching the internet for yellow/white spinnerbaits with one Colorado blade right now!!! :) Funny what fish want sometimes, eh?

  5. Nomad says:

Me too, Rob! Of course, Ty told me that last year, they would only hit his black spinnerbaits, and this year they’re mainly hitting the yellow/white. Who knows what they’ll want next year? The first year I started fishing Idong, I was slaying them on Zoom U-tail balckberry colored worms so we all bought all the purple worms we could that next winter and wouldn’t you know it, the bass would touch them after that first year. I still have some bags laying around here somehwere…

WOW, you guys are really catching them this year, must be something to do with Fridays

    Congrats guys!!

    Steve,

Thanks…I honestly think it’s all about being in the right place at the right time and we’ve been extremely lucky to be able to fish that area while the bass were holed up in there like that. Next spring, I hope you can make it up here for a day or two with your inflatable and we’ll all go out and do it again

You can count on it ;-) I want some of that “40 bass per day” action!

  9. Nomad says:

Ack! No guarantees on a 40 bass per day Steve but at the very least, we’ll kill some beers

  10. Ty says:

Hey, I’m for a beer or two!

  11. Nomad says:

I think we’re on to a good plan here!

  12. steve says:

    I’ll second that Nomad!!
