Ty is definitely on a roll. He and a couple of other guys went back to the same area where Ty has been slaying them the last few weeks (Notice the weeds/reeds in the water in that first pic?):
From Ty: “Nomad, I went out for the afternoon to Asan Bay with Owen and Carl. Owen caught two and Carl caught one but I caught 13 which I only took pictures of 12 because one was a dink. I was using 5" Senkos, black with purple flakes. I was killing them out there and Owen and Carl could only watch the action I had going on! I broke my line twice and I only took one picture with Owen and none of Carl. All the fish in the pics were caught by me except that first one of Owen.”
WTG, TY! I’m surprised that you even had room to fish out there…I bet it was packed with bass and carp fishermen. Were any of them doing any good? And what happened to your magical yellow/white spinnerbait? I know, you’re saving that for when you go out with me, aren’t you!
It was packed and as a matter of fact me and Owen were fishing one spot and four Koreans got right on top of us and starting casting. We left that area. I only seen a couple guys catching one but that’s it. Well as far as the white/yellow spinner, I started out using it, but had no takers and that’s when Owen caught the first one on Senko and I immediatly switched to the power of the SENKO.
and that’s all she wrote.
YES to your last question.
The power of the Senko!
Ack! I just knew you were going to save those yellow/white spinnerbaits for our next outing. I may have to paint some of mine a different color
Nice going guys!
I BBQ’d some fish last night that I caught at Idong yesterday afternoon, and they were actually pretty darn good. However, can anyone offer some tips on filleting bass? I still SUCK at it!
I can’t really help you from personal experience since I haven’t brought a fish home to eat in over 5 years and would probably butcher one if I tried to fillet it but here ya go

WTG again Ty!!
That river is really producing some great fishing so far this year, I hope it continues for you guys!!
Rob
I love to fish Idong. Drove by the south end near the dam and the water looks higher than I have ever seen it. Still the same?
Has anyone tryed weedless topwaters like a frog or mouse in those weedbeds in the river?
I was hoping that the water was going down or already down at Idong, but Rob said it’s still very high. I hope to fish that lake sometime very soon. Would love to take the SS Netcutter out on that lake
Wilsong and Nomad, the water is still very high. It was so high in fact that I had a hard time walking around the bank, and the overhanging trees made it hard to cast too. It’ll be dropping soon though…it’s that time of year.
The SS Netcutter would be perfect out there right now!! Thanks for the links Nomad!
I also had one of the most awesome experiences I’ve ever had over here while out fishing yesterday afternoon, and ironically enough it didn’t have anything to do with fish. A doe walked by me at not more than 100 feet, just minding her own business as I minded mine. She never spooked, just kind of looked at me for a few seconds and then went about her business and wandered off into the wooded hillside a few minutes later. I’ve seen a few deer over here before, but none have ever gotten that close, or acted so confident and calm. Pretty neat…
That sounds great Rob, but I guess you couldn’t get the camera out in time?
Me and a buddy went out to Gosam on Sunday hoping to catch some bass. We got skunked on bass, but right before we were about to leave I tried a white rooster tail on my ultra light and landed several real nice bream. Water level there is still high too, but it has started going down. P.S. I did see some decent bass right up near the shore, but they wouldn’t hit anything I put in front of them.
I am hoping to hit a bunch of bluegill this year. I enjoy them more than bass. Never had any luck at all on Gosam.
Charles, Wilsong,
Gosam can be a tough lake…I’ve only fished it maybe 6 or 7 times but in each case, it was an all-day trip out on one of those boats and we only caught a few bass, if that. I believe the biggest we’ve ever caught out of there was maybe 2 pounds. I never knew about the nice bluegill in that lake until someone mentioned catching tons of slabs out of there last year so hopefully, I’ll get a chance to get out there and catch me a few this year. Wilsong, I’m with you – there’s nothing like bluegill on an ultralight rig
I used to love walking the shore at Idong with my ultralight and that white rooster tail, catching some big bluegill…what a fight they put up! Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find them the last 2-3 years
Steve, didn’t even take my camera with me on Sunday.
Rob, Me and Jim were driving down the back road to the cove and a deer was in the road and we had to stop before it took off. It was a pretty sight to see. I’m fishing Kunsan tomorrow for the next two days and I can’t wait.
Nomad, I won’t be using that last white/yellow spinner there. I’m leaving it home so I don’t even think about using it.
I’ll have some pics for you on Thursday. I’got a feeling I’m going to rake up there.
Ty,
No really, I think you should take that spinnerbait with you, just in case
Good luck down there at Kunsan, I’ll be looking for those pics!
Nomad is hoping that you’ll take it and lose it down there Ty. Don’t do it!!! LOL
Steve, when are you going to make a post about your trip to Andong????
Looks like you did pretty darn well! Congratulations!
Nomad, I’m taking that spinner just in case. I want stay on my word about not getting skunked this year. I just might stay home the rest of the season to avoid a skunk. NOT! I’ll take the skunk just to go fishing.
“I’ll take the skunk just to go fishing” Exactly!
“”Steve, when are you going to make a post about your trip to Andong????”"
I’ll put a little something together this morning
hey guys,
i fished gosam on childrens day and caught atleast 40 fish between two of us. mostly in the 30-35cm range. they are out there on the brush and backwaters. we even got a few fish on topwater and jigs. i guess it helps to go with an anseong local. fish those open water brushpiles near the backwaters, tight to cover and around. caught the most around the brush that had submeraged weeds surounding them. dropshot with a cut tail worm, and small baits were the key. 2″-4″ worms. good luck out there!
steve wong
Steve W,
You caught more fish at Gosam in one day than we managed in like 7 trips
. Maybe it was the areas we were fishing…I usually concentrated near the dam and those cliffs/bluffs across the lake, and near the islands.
I’ve always heard from the locals that Gosam has some great fishing, but I’ve never had much luck out there, and I’ve fished from a boat, from the shore, etc.
Congrats Steve W.!!
Sounds like an awesome day!
when we started on the boat at 10am we went right to a back water hole and found a pattern. then later that day the fished move out of that area into that brush cover and we killem there. we motored to another spot across the lake which took us 40mins to get to and i asked my buddy about all the other areas in between and he said they didnt hold fish. they looked bassy to me but he said no. try the back water and cover near there. atleast right now. will update you guys later if i find some summer patterns there.
ps. i hear that the bluegill there are huuuge!
I headed to Gosam with my carrotstix and ultralites. Goodbye, Idong. (well soon as I can anyway).
Steve W., in a boat out on Gosam I always end up around those two islands for some reason, and I’ve caught a few, but not many. I’ve also caught a few on the rock wall just beyond the islands, on the oppisite end of the lake from the dam, but again, only a few. I’ve also heard from people that the bluegill fishing out there can be outstanding, might have to try it this summer. Again, way to go~~:)
Steve W,
Do you know or can you find out if they allow personally owned inflatables with trolling motors out at Gosam?
i was just looking at google maps
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=37.086132,127.285666&spn=0.014961,0.03283&t=h&z=15
and from the life at the lake, i might start fishing in the north end of the lake, where all of those carp houses are. i also went to the southern inlet directly in the middle. we pulled 8+ fish there. in my opinion any where there are carp houses in this photo and surrounding areas i would try. fyi. bring an anchor if you can, it can save the day.
i am not sure about personal boats, but there was a small thing that could have been a ramp there as well as boats that did look like non rentals. i am sure if you called one of the boat rental places and asked they would give you the info.
Steve W,
Looking at your map; We’ve always gone to one of the boat rental places in the north-west corner near the dam and then started out there, then worked our way near the dam, then the area straight across from the boat rental place where there are some steep cliffs, and then made our way to those islands. I don’t think we’ve ever tried the areas you mentioned. I’ll have to see if I can get the number of oneof those boat rental places. I haven’t been there in a few years, what are they charging to rent a boat now?
something around 40,000 for 1 person 50,000 for 2. go to the north spot first… good luck. let me know if you need a second on a boat or we could buddy boat.
