Tough Friday

Yesterday morning, the river was super high, there was a strong current, the water was muddy and I also had a strong wind in my face (quadruple whammy) – in other words, the fishing was rough.  I only caught a couple, not a one over a pound, hence no pics from yesterday.  Despite it being a Korean holiday, I tried my luck again this morning and it was the complete opposite of yesterday; the water had dropped about 1 1/2 feet – 2 feet, there was no current, no wind and the water had cleared up a bit so I thought it was going to be a great morning, especially since I caught 3 fish in the first 20 minutes.  But once it got light, I couldn’t get a bite to save my life no matter what I threw.  Go figure.

The above is the biggest of the 3 I did catch (on a 5-inch Senko, black with blue flakes) and as you can see, it was still dark out.  And Steve, you were right (You jinxed me, buddy! Tongue out)…that area was packed with carp fishermen and they did camp out overnight, in style, I might add.  They had a huge tent set up out there, big enough for 10 people, plus a couple of smaller tents.  I thought that maybe there was going to be some kind of tournament out there this morning, the tent was so big.  But fortunately all the carp muttons were all crammed into one area so I did have some room to fish.

Sorry about the jinx Nomad  but nice catch!

I’m going to try my luck early in the morning before this weekend storm front hits us. What time do you usually hit the water in the mornings Nomad? and what time does it usually start getting light? (I’m usually still in bed and sleep during that time of day  )

Hey Nomad, at least there are no skunks! Good Going, nothing can stop a true fisherman.

    Steve,

This time of year, I’m usually out there between 4:30 and 5:30, all depending on what time I drag myself out of bed and as Wilsong said, it starts getting light right around 5 now. Good luck out there, I just looked at the radar pictures and the rain is headed your way already, hope you get some time to wet a line before it gets too bad.

    Ty,

The morning started out great, 3 fish in the first 20 minutes or so but as soon as it got light, the party was over. LOL

Well it started to get light right around 5:00am as both you guys mentioned, and luckily the heavy rain held off until around 11:00am, so I got to wet a line before I got wet through, lol.

I managed to get about 10 bass all on a buzzbait. Most of them were tiny dinks though, but 2 or 3 of them weren’t too bad.

    Steve,

It just started raining up this way a little while ago but nothing bad yet…I had a lot of errands to run or I would have been out there today to enjoy an overcast day with a front coming in…perfect, just the way I like it :) It’s supposed to pour tomorrow and tomorrow night so I doubt I’ll make it out Monday morning. Is it me or is this year going by way too fast?

  7. Steve says:

No, its not just you Nomad, Its almost June already, ack!! It only feels like a few weeks ago that everything was frozen!

But, I personally love fishing in the early morning, late evening rain. So long as it’s not a cold rain. They generally seem to bit really well then.

  9. Nomad says:

Yep, I don’t mind fishing in the rain either…as long as there’s not a 40mph wind howling in my face. I’d rather fish in the rain than having the sun beating down on me with 90 degree temps :) I went out with my upstairs neighbor in his boat last fall and we got drenched in a downpour but man oh man, were we raking in the bass. Good times. The reason I probably won’t go out Monday morning is because usually, after a heavy rain, that river gets really nasty with 0 visibility. We’ll see, I usually play it by ear. It’s getting warm though and soon the bass will be moving out to deeper water so I have to get in what I can, when I can before summer hits.

Nice going Nomad. I don’t mind either, so long as it’s not pouring down…
