International Weekend at Andong

As always, it was another great weekend at Andong. Great food at the Saturday evening BBQ, great people and great times, and great beer of course. The weather turned out great great for the BBQ and those spending time at Andong, but for the fishing the weather could of been much better.

The weather on Saturday was great, cloudy skies and biting fish. Then at the end of the day the sun was shining. During Saturday night a big storm rolled through with heavy rain and thunder and lightening, which at one point blow all the lights out across the Andong bridge, scary stuff for those camping out in tents!! Sunday started off hot, humid and sunny from the word go and that difference for the day before made the fishing somewhat difficult.

Here’s some of my fish from Saturday;

    Whoa! Those are some nice, healthy fish, Steve. I need to catch a couple like that out of the river :)

    Thanks Nomad,
    The first 2 photos are of the same fish. She was 52cm long and had some strange markings along its left side. The tail was just starting to heal up from the recent spawn. She was quite skinny and 1.8kg, so I guess around 4lbs.

    Skinny bass = hungry bass! :smile:

    Nice Bass Steve! It goes to show us anglers how the weather changes everything for fishing. Good on Saturday and not so good on Sunday after the storm rolled through. I talked to a couple of people that were there and they said Saturday was a good day for them to.

    Steve,

    Nice fish. It seems the past few years at that tournament, the weather is good the day before and then Bam, the weather turns on the day when it counts. At least you got to enjoy the beer, food, soju and company. Who won and did any Americans place?

    I see two of my compadres (apprentices) :grin: (Arthur Rodriguez and Martin Garcia) made the the top ten. They must have got lucky and got to fish wth guys that caught them all :smile: Wish I could have been there.

  8. steve says:

    They did draw 2 good anglers, one was the Mr Lee from Oh Brothers/The Hit and the other angler was Park Gyung-Tae who is my Surecatch Korea Prostaff colleague and a great angler.

    Steve,

    I knew it would be no more than one day before my compadre (Tony Rodriguez) would send me an email bragging :lol: He said he had the biggest bass at over 7 pounds but the pictures I saw don’t look like no 7 pound bass but maybe a 4 or 5 pound bass. What was the biggest bass? In the other international tournaments I had fished with him there before at Andong, Tony alwsys tried using these crazy topwater baits and other crap and never caught anything. He finally listened to me and used a Wacky rig, which is what he stated he caught the monster on. I guess he finally learned.

    Tex,
    I’m not sure what the weight of the biggest bass was, but I know it was caught by a Korean Pro.
