Is It My Birthday?

No, it’s not but I sure felt like it this morning.  I caught a fish on my first cast of the morning and  much to my surprise, I caught two more after that, one of them pretty nice, if I do say so myself.  And as you can see, I was using the old white/red spinnerbaits.

The only bad part of the morning was that I donated a spinnerbait to the river but I’ve learned to accept the occasional lost lure when fishing that river from shore.  Blah, it’s supposed to rain all weekend so the Saturday trip is looking really iffy.

    Congrats Nomad.
I seen the weather forecast for the weekend also, but I may still go fishing for a couple of hours from the shore only. Cloudy and rain is good fishing weather at this time of year, I just wouldn’t want to set up and pack away a boat in the rain.

    Steve,

I’m going to play it by ear as usual…last weekend they were predicting almost the same thing and it never rained on us at all. I can handle a little rain but if it’s a torrential downpour and/or lightning/thunder, I’ll stay home.

Yeah, there’s a very good chance that the weather pests will get it wrong again!

    We can only hope!

Nice catches Nomad and it is now 0637 on Saturday morning and yep, we could have fished 2 hours thus far. LOL A little cloudy but I predict no rain until noon… We’ll get em next time Nomad

    Ty,

I can’t believe it and I apologize for not following my instincts, which was to head out anyway. KMA has to be the biggest FAIL in the history or the world. I checked until 8 last night, and they steady predicted 10-24mm rain from 3 in the morning till noon, with another 10-24mm rain in the afternoon, and with strong winds (4m/s). But much to my surprise, when I got up this morning it was dry as a bone outside, nice and overcast, with absolutely no wind. It can’t be that hard to predict the weather a few hours out in advance. Sigh…today would have been the perfect day to be out.

I agree Nomad. There is always next time but with that kind of weather. I wonder how anyone did that went out on this perfect day.

I’ll check with Mike to see how they did. I think they stayed out for over 12 hours  Be ready for the July 4th weekend! I feel a day of leave coming on :)

It was supposed to rain all day today (Sunday) also down here, but I woke up this morning to the most perfect summertime fishing weather, gray clouds and not a breath of wind :x

    From Mike:

“It turned out to be a decent day. The rain never showed up (about three showers that lasted less than ten minutes is all) but the wind was pretty bad at times. And they let about 2 feet of water out of the river in anticipation of the rain, so that had the fish messed up. We only caught 8 fish (and missed a couple of others) mostly on drop-shot and T-rigged curly tail worms. I caught one 18 ½” three pounder on my medium-light baitcasting rod and that was one heckuva fight. Probably the best fight of the year thus far for me…around the boat, under the boat, let line out, around the boat again, ah she’s coming in…no wait, she’s making another run, let line out…you get the picture.

There were hardly any boats on the water, but we saw a couple of Koreans in a big bass boat fishing about 70-80 yards off the bank and casting towards the middle. They were on a school of suspended fish and were tearing them up. They caught more fish while we watched them than we caught all day.”
