Wow. Freaking unbelievable. That pretty much sums up this morning’s fishing trip. After having some decent luck with the 10.5” Zoom Ol’ Monster worms yesterday, I started out with them this morning – and the bass were tearing them up!
As you can see, I caught some really decent fish out there this morning. That one in the 2nd pic came in at 3 pounds, 5 ounces and now that I look at the pics, the fish in the first pic looks even bigger than the one in the 2nd one. What do you think? On top of these 5 fish, I also had two break my line right at shore, in the rocks. One was at least 3 pounds, and the 2nd one was right around 4 and was taking drag out so hard that I couldn’t even reel it in. It finally turned towards shore and took me in the rocks and broke the line. I have 8-pound line on that rod, because I was going to only use it for the smaller Zoom U-tail worms but after this morning, I’m going to go up to either 10, 12 or some 30-pound braid. I had the drag set a little loose since it’s only 8-pound line but that one really took me for a ride and there wasn’t much I could do to control it from shore, not with all those rocks. From a boat, the lighter line would be no problem. Wow, what an incredible morning it was, especially for this time of year! Yeah, right now I’m still walking on air
. And check out that little guy in the last pic – what the heck was he thinking?
Nomad, you have found the killer lure for this time of year. Now I will have to go out and find some of those things, lol.
Congratulations on catching a bunch of very nice sized bass!!
Thanks Steve, I’ve been scouring the internet to get more of those in the dark colors and lo and behold, almost everyone is out of stock exept for the weird colors. Imagine that. Once again, I’m late to the party, seems everyone else already knows that these produce in the summer time. We’ll see if the last two days were a fluke or what…but man, those fish were tearing them up this morning. That last one that broke my line…I cast out about 10 feet and lit a smoke. When I started reeling in, I felt hard resistance so I thought I had snagged up on the rocks but then the fish took off and started stripping drag. Quite the awesome morning
Nice looking fish. Keep it up.
He was thinking “HOOOOONGRY!!!!!!” Great work Nomad.
Mike,
Thanks, I just ordered some more of these worms
wilsong,
Makes you wonder…I mean that worm was almost twice as long as that dink. What if I used a 20″ plastic worm? Would a bass try to eat that too?
Haven’t seen it in bass but have seen other species try to eat things bigger than them.
LOL Nice going Nomad!
Are you using any weight at all?
Nope, no weight at all. Just a big old 10.5″ worm on a 4/0 hook. On a spinning reel with 8-pound line, it casts pretty far…we’ll see how it goes once I go to heavier line though. When I first started yesterday, I was using the smaller, regular Zoom worms, with a bullet weight but they kept getting snagged so after losing 4 or 5 rigs, I put on the bigger hook and worm.
Now that’s taken it to them Bass Nomad! WTG, I fish that same spot this evening and caught four there. I’ll send the pics to you. I caught one at the power lines and it was well over 3 pounds. I also took Allen out with me and he manged to catch one also. I caught the first one on a 5″ black and green flake senko and the other four were on a 5″ natural shad senko’s. All the fish today were nice, no dinks and I managed to avoid a skunk which is my goal this year for every trip out.
Nomad,
Am I hearing “Taps” for the expensive senkos now.
You always seem to catch them on anything you throw at them. You sure as heck do better than I ever did in that river. You just always seem to kill them. Good job and nice fish.
Ack!!!!
No way, Tex Mex! The Senko is and always will be my “go to” lure, well,as long as the bass keep tearing them up, that is. I just decided to start trying other lures this year so I can hopefully become a better and more well-rounded fisherman. As you know, if you only rely on one and only one lure, you’re hosed on the days the bass don’t want that lure. I’m a bit limited on what I can throw from shore in that river, but I’ve been having a good time trying a few different things.
