Nomad and I discussed the the weather reports from KMA versus the Weather Channel. One called for no rain, the other, showers all day. I made a decision to go out anyway – I could always bring an umbrella for the Wiener dog. I was greeted this morning to the most unbelievable sunrise I’ve seen in a long time but it reminded me of the sailor’s adage, “Red sky in the morning, sailors warning. Red sky at night, sailors delight”.
The fishing was good. I caught bass on the old balsa Big-O. You old timers will remember that bait as the one bass pros were paying $20 for back in the 70s and storing in egg cartons to keep safe. I still have some from that era and they still catch fish. I also caught a few on 6.5 inch black Senko Cuttails rigged wacky. The water temp was down by 6-7 degrees from last weekend. Overall, I brought 8 bass in with just one or two dinks.
It started raining about 10 am and the wind picked so we headed out. I’m sure glad I decided to go out. That sunrise will be etched in my memory for a long time.
Nice going John, and yes, very nice sunrise pics!!
Wow, what a sunrise! I haven’t seen one like that since back in 2008 and seeing something like that makes my whole day. Oh, and nice bass too…good thing you made the decision to head out.
Nice going John, great sunrise photos and nice looking bass. How’s the new boat running?? the weiner dog looks much happier with all that deck space
We were out there too and yes you are right; that was an awesome sunrise and I made the exact same comment you made about “red sky in morning”… When the rain started at around 10, I called my son at home and had him check the radar online. He said all of Korea was “covered in a big white cloud”. When I asked him how soon it looked like it would pass his reply was “I don’t think it’s going to pass”. We stayed out and the rain was intermittent but the wind became so bad in the afternoon that we finally packed it in a little after 3. We started out the morning pretty well. I caught my first 4 lb bass from there and my partner caught two three pounders. Things slowed down after noon though and we only caught 8 fish although we missed a few at the boat too. All were nice sized except one dink though. I’ll post pics later.
All I can say is, I’m tired of all this rain. Between the rain, muddy river, and heat, I’ve only been able to get out one day in the morning before work since my wife and daughter came back from the states. And that day, the river was so high and muddy that I only fished for about 30 minutes, then went in to work. I had all my stuff laid out for tomorrow morning, but the downpours we’re having right now put that idea to rest
I hope next weekend is decent because I plan on getting out there.
Nomad,
I hope next weekend’s weather will be good also as it is the ChunChon open World Leisure tournament. You should come up and fish the Sunday tournament in the SS Netcutter
Beautiful background and nice fish. If you didn’t say where you were, people would probably think you were in some nice Canadian lake.
John
Awesome simply absolutely f’g AWESOME. Nice bass too.
Thought I had left this comment yesterday, but….. maybe I dreamed it. Two weeks of night shift can interupt the brain waves.
Steve
I will be in Chunchon on Sunday as well. Doing the ProAm. Look forward to seeing you again.
Wilsong,
It’ll be good to see you again. We didn’t get much chance to talk last time at Andong. I’ll be there on Friday night and fishing the practise on Saturday.
I will be up there on Saturday morning. if there is a barbeque will be there. Don’t know if I will get any fishing in on Sauturday. Probably just be finding my way around the area as a prep for future trips.
I hope you guys have some decent weather this weekend!
Cloudy with light winds on both days……………PLEASE!!
Amen, brother, amen!
Steve,
Looks like you may get your wish for a “little” wind

Holy crap, that doesn’t look good!!
I honestly don’t know what to say any more. I’ve been here a total of 16 years now and I’ve never seen a year with weather this consistently bad. Here’s hoping for a decent fall!
Looks as though you guys are going to get some wind and/or rain on Thursday, but it looks as though the typhoon will pass Korea early Friday morning, hopefully it won’t mess the lake up too much!
Usually after a typhoon, the next day is very clear and calm.
I’m hoping for decent weather on Saturday! Rob is charging the batteries and I’m making sammiches
And the SS Netcutter should be on the water Monday as well…
edit: Ack! I just saw they’re predicting rain on Sunday night/Monday
How are you guys doing this morning with that typhoon?? Be safe!!
Steve,
The worst passed to the north of us. We received some rain and some wind; trees were down in a lot of places and stuff got blown around/away but for the most part, it wasn’t that bad here. I guess the Seoul area got hit pretty hard with heavy rain and winds though.
I just heard that 3 people had died in country, but not sure where exactly
