Andong 2011 Master Classic

I fished the Andong Master Classic last Sunday. I usually fish the practice day on Saturday, but this time my little girl had a dancing tournament on the Saturday and I wasn’t brave enough to miss that!!  lol.

Anyway, despite going into the tournament totally clueless as to what the bass were doing, I managed to catch a bunch of bass, a few dinks, but mostly keeper size bass. My biggest 3 went 1,940g at the scales and was good enough for a top 10 place. I didn’t take many photos, but here’s a couple;

As you can see from the photos all my fish were caught on wacky 4” senkos or SureCatch Sniperspin spinnerbaits, either a chartreuse and black colored skirt, or on the one below;

I also won a waterproof bag in the random raffle drawing.

    Steve,

Great job on placing in the top 10. Looks like you kicked butt and caught some nice ones. It looks like they still have not taken to a deep water winter pattern yet. Maybe if it doesn’t get to cold yet the fish we still stay active and shallow. May have to arrange a trip there if possible here soon.

  2. Steve says:

    Thanks Tex.
There were 2 main patterns at Andong last weekend, a deep pattern and a shallow pattern, and there were big bass caught in both patterns. I stuck with the shallow pattern all day, but a lot of people went with the deep pattern. I heard that on the Saturday, a lot of the deep caught bass were dying and could not be fizzed.

Oh, and great job on winning the team walking tournament Team America!

Hi, I am new on this site. can anyone tell me were are the best places to fish in pyeontaek?

  7. Wilsong says:

    Jacob

Around Pyongtaek look at Google Map and pick a good size pond. There is a fishing spot at Singal near Suwon that is poplular with some. I have went to 3 different ones east of the Osan exit. Almost all pomds in your area have bass and bluegill as well as carp. I will have defer to others on spots on the river.

  8. Jacob says:

Thanks you so much! By the way i live in asan but i usually go fishing in pyeongtaek.I usually catch nothing because i fish a kind a bad spot and a lucky day i can catch 1. So if you also Know of any good spots in asan or anything u have to say u could email me at jammorin@gmail.com

This also goes to anyone on this site who has any tips for me :)

    (P.S. I am 14)

  9. Jacob says:

sorry. asan-si not asan-ri so anywhere in about a 30 minute to 45 minite radius is GOOD!

  10. Rob says:

Jacob, there are lots of different options for fishing in Asan. Yum Chi Lake is nice and clean and it holds bass, bluegill and carp. It’s also not too far from Asan. You can find Yum Chi on Google Earth by putting in the following coordinates: Lat – 36°49’33.03″N, and Long – 126°59’59.27″E. It would also be worth your time to try out the many small rivers in the area. I bet they’re loaded with bass. Pyongtaek Lake is not far from you either, Google Earth Coordinates: Lat – 36°54’35.63″N, and Long – 126°55’28.52″E. Hope this helps, and good luck to you.

    Jacob,

    First; good intel Rob.
Jacob, If you know a little about the Pyongtaek area the river behind Camp Humphreys has many bass in it and you can catch bass about anywhere on that river. Also Idong and Gosan lakes have bass also. These lakes or on highway 45 going up towards Yong-in. 20 to 30 minutes from the Camp Humphreys. If you like trout fishing there are a few lakes around the area also, Dokpong is one of the closes and most visited lakes by Camp Humphreys/Osan area. These lakes are mostly pay lakes. Cost range from 5000 won to fish off the shore to 40,000 won to rent a boat(trolling only) at Gosan. This is for bass are bluegill. Trout fishing run you 20,000 won to catch and release to 30,000 won to keep 3 some places 5 trout. Average trout are in the 2 to 3 lb. range. Take Rob’s advice and check out the ponds and rivers near your home and I’m betting there will be some bass there. Good Luck enjoy Korea.

  12. Jacob says:

Thanks! The information is GREAT! and the Yum Chi Lake looks perfect because its right next to me. And also rob
the river behind humphreys sounds good. The other lakes though i cant do cause i don’t have much money  . Barely even have any lures.

But also, Rob, I do fish on pyeontaek lake sometimes but the problem is i don’t know where to fish. One more thing Do i need to know any specific spots on Yum Chi or can i catch them anywhere? (all my fishing is done from shore because i got no boat.)

  13. Ron says:

    Jacob,

I fished many places on Yum-chi lake. I prefer down where the creek runs in, but by the dam is ok also. Take time to explore all the areasof the lake and fine your favorite spots. That lake also has a charge of 5000 won if he see’s you. He’s usually is in a boat. Jacob where you from back home? You a teacher here? Don’t forget about the river. Rob does alot of spinner baits and wacky style there at Yum-chi lake. WHEN HE GOES. Getting cold know hard to get the bites but you still can getna few here and there. Good Luck.

  14. Rob says:

    Good advice Ron.

Jacob I always fish by tha dam at Yum Chi simply because it is usually less crowded there. There are fish all over that lake though, plus it’s very clean and beautiful in the summertime. I’m guessing that you fish near the resort area on Pyongtaek Lake??? I’m not too familiar with that part of the river, but in the spring you should be able to catch bunches in shallow water on just about anything. I prefer wacky-rigged Senkos though.

If you need more info don’t hesitate to ask, and I’ll get you some more coordinates to places I’ve caught fish on Pyongtaek Lake later on.

I,M from TEXAS! and a year before that california so i dont have a texan accent yet  . And no i’m not a teacher i don’t really have a job cause i just turned 14 years old. I am living with some friends here.

How is your korean? ( 한국말 어떼요?) and thanks for the advice

  16. Jacob says:

River? do you mean the thing running in? also you said where there creek runs in are you talking about the same thing?

  17. Ron says:

    Jacob,

The creek is the stream thats running into the lake. There’s a little road bridge you cross over when you come off the highway that’s the place I’m talking about. The river we are talking about if you look at a map is basically pyongtaek lake area. If you live in Asan-si, I believe you have a nice river running through that area where they hold there yearly festival at. Just look for deeper water if it’s shallow. Also what Rob talking about on the wacky style is hooking the worm in the middle (usually a senko style worm) with no weight. You can find other brands out there with similar looks that work also. Good Luck.

  18. Jacob says:

    Ron,

Thanks, and i knew about the rigging but do you know anywhere where i can get senkos cheap here?

  19. Rob says:

No such thing as a cheap Senko in Korea. You can find some knock-offs that will probably work just as well though. I think Damiki makes some, and just about any fishing store should have ‘em.

Steve, does Surecatch make a Senko type worm?

  20. Jacob says:

    ok thanks!

  21. Steve says:

    Rob/Jacob,
Yes, SureCatch does make a “version” of the senko. It doesn’t have the high salt content of the senko, but it lasts so much longer, lol. You can fish them wacky using a small jighead for the same affect as the original senko at half the price.

You can get them right from the SureCatch site or pretty much any store that sells lure fishing tackle.

Went fly fishing Sunday. Caught over 20. FTV was there. They say that it should be on TV around the 18th of this month. I don’t know if I will be on there(TV) but they were doing interviews with some of the scorpions fishing club members. Jimmy was on there too. Rob you know Jimmy right. Anyway had a great time there gave alot fish away to Steve and his fishing friends. They won the walking team tournament done at Andong. It was all good. Pretty cold though in the morning.

  26. Rob says:

Nice going Ron! I figured that you guys had been out there tearing them up. Have you been using lures, power bait or flies?

  27. Jacob says:

Went to yum chi yesterday for 3 hours. One bite on a twister tail but I missed it:( It was really cold though, started to snow a little near the end. Tommorow i might go out again because its gonna get a little warmer and there will be some rain.

Also Rob, if you can the coordinates would be helpful ;-)

  28. Jacob says:

what trailer were you using for the spinnerbaits?

  29. Steve says:

It is called a “Sensortail” and it is made by SureCatch ;-)

  30. Jacob says:

OK, im gonna order some. Thanks again
