I drove out to the river last Saturday to check out the ice and snow, and witnessed a rare event when a small deer ran out in front of me and crossed the road. It was only the third one I’ve seen over here (in the wild) in eight years. Since traffic was light, I immediately parked on the side of the road and jumped out in an attempt to snap a pic, but by that time it had run off into the brush and all that was left were its tracks in the snow.
It’s not even January yet and I’m already getting cabin fever! I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year to you all!!
If you want to see deer on a more regular basis, come on back home
I’m not sure if I’ve seen more live ones or dead ones since I got back; those things are always getting taken out by cars and now, instead of worrying about taxis, buses and terminator dump trucks, I have to worry about deer running out in front of my vehicle.
I just love what they’re doing to the river!
The river, as we once knew it, is no more…
Well, at least we got to fish it in its prime so we have some good memories and pics to go with them
I’ve seen a couple of small deer running around in the rice fields between Royal Oak Village and Best Village over the past 2 weeks. Looks like they’re out there just having some fun.
We see a lot of dead deer on the new road that was built right through their habitat
nomad i am now finally back at campbell so if you would like to link up and try to get some fishing trips in let me know i dont have my boat back yet its still in kansas but we can beat up some of the banks just the same i have been hearing great reports from myy guys that the kentucky lake ledge fishing is out of this world right now catching 20-25 lb bags regularly.

bassfishinsteve,
I’d be more than happy to beat up some banks! Shoot me an email lostnomad@gmail.com

THE OTHERS WERE FROM A LAKE IN ILLINOIS THAT MY MOM SENT HIM LOL. MAYBE I’M MISTAKEN THAT MAY BE THE BIGGEST BASS I CAUGHT HERE. STEVE KEEP IN TOUCH AND WATCH THE SIGHT. I’M GOING AFTER SNAKEHEAD AS SOON AS THE WEATHER BREAKS. MIGHT TAKE ROB AND GIVE HIS SOME LESSONS LOL ALSO GETTING MY POLES READY FOR SOME BASS FISHING. YOU AND NOMAD HAVE A GREAT TIME . KEEP US POSTED. BIG BASS UP.
LOL Ron!
Definitely take some pics if you guys go, and if you figure out that Alabama rig give us some pointers!! According to my brother in law that’s what most people are catching those big bags on, out on the ledges!
HEY ROB,
hAVE YOU ORDERED ANY OF ALABAMA RIGS? IF YOU DO GRAB A COUPLE FOR ME ALSO. I KNOW THERE GOING FOR AROUND $8 DOLLARS ON EBAY AN UP TO $20 DEPENDING WHERE YOU GET THEM. IF YOU DECIDE TO TRY THEM GET ME A COUPLE ALSO PREFER THE WEIGHTLESS ONES BUT I WILL USE EITHER. IF I GET THEM DO YOU WANT A COUPLE. THEY WILL ONLY COST YOU $40.00 L.O.L.. GIVE ME A CALL. LETS BUY A FEW AND TEST THEM HERE IN KOREA. ANDONG WOULD BE GREAT FOR THEM I THINK. BASS UP
I haven’t ordered any yet Ron, but if/when I do I’ll pick up a couple for you, and you can have them for only 3x what I paid.
I’ll probably go with the originals from Manns, and I think they’re about $28 each. I did the same thing with chatterbaits when they first came out, bought the first batch from the original makers, then bought some knock offs later on. Somebody went through the trouble of designing and making that thing, so I’ll buy the original the first time.
I need to get some 90 pound braid though. Anybody have any recommendations?
Rob/Ron,
I made my own 4 wire version of the a-rig lastweek and was able to test it in water a few days ago. I threw it on a M/H rod and 16lb flurocarbon and it handled it well. The next time out I will test it with a Heavy rod and 50lb braid.
The action of this thing looks amazing in the water, I can’t wait to try this thing at Andong
Alamaba rig? You don’t need no stinkin’ Alabama rig – check out this video

Hahahaha and he actually caught a fish with that rig. Genius! LOL
ROB,
I THINK MOST OF THE REPORTS WAS TO GO WITH 65 BRAID ON THE ALABAMA RIG WITH A MIDIEM HEAVY ROD AT LEAST 7′. I PREFER POWER PRO LINE BEEN GOOD TO ME.I USED IT FOR THE PAST FEW YEARS AND TOSSES GOOD. DON’T REALLY KNOW WHY I USE THE 20 AND 30 LB. BRAIDED CAUSE I HAVEN’ CAUGHT ANYTHING OVER A LB. LOL. GOOD LUCK ALL WITH THE A RIG. MIGHT TRY IT OUT ON SNAKEHEAD THIS SPRING BEFORE THE HYDILLA WEEDS COME UP. LATER
I was wondering what the heck you all were talking about with this Alabama rig. It looks to me like your common Striper umbrella rig. My only question is how in the heck can you cast it. It looks more like a trolling rig.
Tex Mex,
I think it going to be a challege to cast this rig, and it does look like the striper trolling rig. but what I seen is to use a braided line of 65 lb. test incase you get snagged. You can then straighten out the hook and not lose the entire rig. The word is to use 7′ med heavy rod when using this rig. I’m guessing, with a bait cast reel. I seen a video and the rod looks to bend alot when casting. I heard about alot of people catching some nice fish with this rig I’m trying to make a few of these rigs different lengths using stainless steel welding rods in the .035 thouseths size. Tigging the rods ends together in front and having my friend with his lead weight maker make the head portion and or go light weight or weightless using a tungsten type weight with a swivel style to tie my line to it. Still trying to figure out the weight. I bent the back where the swivels go using a pair of needle noise pliers. Bent it to a way where the wire stays secure but you can replace swivels if need be without opening up the gap. Does anyone else have any suggestion on making the rig and how they did the front potion of the rig where your line ties to it . Thanks.
How about the good ole Mexican way. Attach three coat hangers pieces to a key ring and then attach three sluggos to the end of the coat hangers. Walla, a Mexican Alabama Rig:)
tex,
making one of those mex rigs today lol
Steve,
Good job on the rig. I basically have the same bend in the area where the swivel goes so you can change out sizes. Mine made with welding rod stainless .035. The head; I’m trying a few things out. Made different lengths. I’m going to get with Alan and make some lead heads for them and try some light tungsten weights drilled out with swivel installed or a lead swivel weight drilled out and use some jb weld to epoxy the front arms in(arms already tigged together). I read about a person using a wisk (egg beatter) and cutting it up and making one. People also used the unbrella rig for stripers, and cut it down. Good job anyway Bass up at Andong shortly.
Hope it warms up soon for Andong as this weather has been the coldest I have felt in a long time. This makes Colorado feel like a Carribean state.
It’s sunny here and in the 60′s but I’m stuck at work
Nomad,
I wish it was in the 60′s here. It’s been down right cold as of right now just looked at the temp here at the Hump. -3.4 degrees F. below zero. Hell just to puff a cigarette you freeze. It’s supposed to warm up a little this weekend 30′s. 60′s, give me some 40′s or 50′s and I’m at the river. Mail some of that heat here.LOL. Sorry to here your at work. I’m at work also start at 0600 everyday. Nomad I think if the weather stays warm there the rest of the winter the bass will be on the beds early this year. My mom lives in the southern part of IL. she’s loving this weather. Are you going to try out that A-rig this year? Making some up to see if it’s worth all the talk. later
