I drove out to the Pyongtaek river today and took a real close look. I have absolutely no idea where people are going to launch their boats at this year. You can’t even drive up onto the levy due to construction, and whatever it is that they’re building up there isn’t nearly wide enough for vehicles, especially vehicles with boats behind them.

  2. Nomad says:

So the ramp at the PBA area is completely shot, eh? Damn. How about further down…isn’t there a ramp near the sea wall? As far as I know, unless they have plans for building a real ramp, that’s the only other one on the entire river. But if the levee is as narrow as you told me, a car wouldn’t be able to drive on it anyway. Blah!

    Nomad/ Rob

The only other place there’s a ramp is at the seawall down 39 you can lanch from there but I don’t know that part of the lake very well. I know they don’t usually let anyone just lanch from there but they may for tournament reasons. They may have another area to lanch that we don’t know about. Rob what about the yellow blinking light area past the pba where we used to lanch; by the fishing boat nets. Did they do something with that area maybe? I haven’t been down there in a while. They were also doing construction down there.

Went and did some trout fishing (Dokbong) yesterday. Didn’t catch much on the fly rod. Shannon kicked but (SNAG MASTER) about 15 of them in the 3 to 4 lb. range. We got out of there pretty quick limit was 12 for 3 people John caught 3. Owner said in March it will be 10 limit per person. Trout season winding down. Even tried my a-rig (nothing). Steve did you get a lot of tangles when casting the a-rig(around the wires)? I sure did.

  4. Ron says:

    Steve, thanks for the schedule

  5. Steve says:

I have just heard that there may be some changes to the schedule, the lack of ramps may be the reason. I will update the schedule in Englidh when it comes out.

Ron, I did have one or two tangles with the a-rig at first, but simply spreading the wires out a bit more fixed that problem.

  6. Ron says:

    Steve,

I just heard from my friend Jimmy. You may have met him. His on team scorpions. He said kb and ksa are not going to be linked up this year and changes will be coming. That’s the rumor anyway and I can see changes do to the ramp deal at the pba sight also. Just a heads up. Thanks for the intel on the a-rig.

  7. Steve says:

Yeah, that’s the same as I heard today also.

  8. Rob says:

I’ll have to check down by the flashing light sometime this week Ron. Steve, I think that’s where you launched your boat from a couple of years ago. It may be open, but the guy who supposedly owns it is a real ass wipe.

The ramp down by the seawall is really nice, but to get back this way you have to traverse some pretty shallow water. I’ve done it several times, but with my boat I’m not too worried about scratching the paint, if ya know what I mean. :) I haven’t seen any Koreans take their nice boats down that way. It’s okay as long as you stay in the main channel, but if you get out of it, like Alan and I did a few years back, you’ll be sitting on a sand bar before you know it.

Nomad, yes it is totally inaccessible now. They’ve even put straw down, I presume to cover up the grass seed that’s been planted so that it doesn’t blow away. It’s going to be a really nice area for bikers, joggers and walkers. Maybe not so much for fishermen though.

  9. Nomad says:

Hmmm…if someone could find a way to get to it, I bet my old point at the PBA area will be great this spring ;-) I can’t imagine being in Korea without my EMB

  10. Rob says:

The point is still accessible Nomad; you just have to park out on the main road and walk to it is all. Or, take advantage of the new bike trail and ride your bike out there to it.

  11. Nomad says:

Parking out on the main road would be ok later on, but on those mornings when it’s 30 degrees or so, that would be a long walk to go warm up the hands.

  12. Jacob says:

If anyone is ever going to yum chi leave a comment and I can meet you there if its ok. I’m about 5 minutes from there :)

  13. Rob says:

I’ll probably start going out there next month sometime Jacob. Is it still iced over?

  14. Jacob says:

I think a little :( next time I drive by I will check…… That will probably be in the next 2 or 3 days. Once its all defrosted I will let you know:)

  15. Wilsong says:

Sounds like the river is falling victim to the 4 rivers project renovations even if it aint one of Them. The Han has been changed all along the river bank as well. Making them better for every day recreation users but an eyesore for the ecology and outdoorsmen.

  16. Jacob says:

Rob, I went out to yum chi yesterday and there was no ice at all :) I only stay for about an hour because I just went to check it out. I didn’t catch any but a couple other people where catching some ;) .

  17. Rob says:

Thanks for the update Jacob. If I can break away I might go out there tomorrow sometime.

  18. Jacob says:

I’m going out today  . If you come I will be there sometime in the afternoon.

  19. Rob says:

I didn’t make it out there Jacob. How did you do?

  20. Jacob says:

Nothing  . I went home early because I started getting windy and cold. Also my Rod broke  I’ll probably go again Saturday because it will be really warm here.

  21. Rob says:

Hang in there Jacob. In a few more weeks, if you fish ‘em right, you’ll be catching them one after the other out at Yum Chi. Sorry to hear about your rod, been there and done that unfortunately.

  22. Jacob says:

That sounds good  maybe I’ll see you there another time :o

  23. Ron says:

    Hey Rob,

I’m proably heading to Andong on the weekend of the 7th in April. Riding the bikes down with a few people. May stay the night at homani’s.Just to check the lake and are supplies to see what we may need for the 20th weekend. We plan to go down on the 20th of April and do some fishing for the weekend .Looks like we should have a full load down there. Rod and his kids along with Birby. Shannon and Bill are going too along with Alan. He will probably ride his bike down there. Ruben will probably go also. Not a lock for him yet. I hope I can get a spot on someones boat if he decides not to go. The April almanac shows it to be pretty good for fishing during that time. Just need to change the hours around for Korea. Ask John if he will be able to brake free and also go. They do have that pension on the top of the hill if we need to make arrangements. Alan has the number. If this doesn’t all come to play thate weekend of the 20th (bad weather /rain) we may go a week later. They also have an amateur tournament that weekend 22nd here in Pyeogtaek. I’m guessing at the river. Rob if you going down to get your batteries get some intel on the lake maybe stop by hamani’s and check the charcol and lighter fluid situation for us incase it rains on the 7th of April.

  24. Ron says:

    Rob,

May do some snake fishing Saturday. If your up for it. Let me know.

  25. Ron says:

    Rob, weather permitting

  26. Rob says:
